New Ceramics Exhibition Opening 11th September

A stunning new ceramics exhibition will officially open in the Shepparton Art Gallery on Saturday 11th September, featuring pieces by a remarkable artist, Pamela Irving.

Shepparton Art Gallery Director, Ms Leanne Willis, said the exhibition, ‘Treading the Boards’ is a solo show organised by Shepparton Art Gallery paying tribute to nineteenth century theatre performers.

“Each piece has been made into a mosaic, an effect that has been described as ‘architectural, with the individual pieces mirroring the flow of modelled forms’”,
Ms Willis said.

“Former Shepparton Art Gallery director, Joseph Pascoe, describes the process used by Pamela in creating these exquisite pieces in a catalogue essay, saying ‘the artist sourced nineteenth-century doll parts over the internet from a Dresden factory, and then affixed them in a way that references Memoryware, an American Folk Craft tradition’.”

“It is this interesting and unique styling, and commitment to diversity in artwork, that has fuelled Pamela’s popularity in art circles for more than 15 years.”

The Deputy Chief Magistrate of Victoria, Ms Jelena Popvic, will officially launch the exhibition at 1.30 pm on Saturday 11th September.

“Mr Andrew Fairley will also be at the opening to launch a new sculpture created by Pamela, titled ‘Larry’.  The sculpture will take up residence on the front lawn of the gallery and has been donated by the artist with partial funding from The Sir Andrew and Lady Fairley Foundation through Perpetual Trustees.”

Pamela Irving’s ‘Treading the Boards’ will run in the Community Gallery until Sunday 10th October before travelling to the Geelong Art Gallery.
