Students, Teachers and Schools

SAM offers a range of educational workshops, tours, and resources for both teachers and students. SAM also develops and hosts Professional Development opportunities for teachers throughout the year.

For Students

This year, SAM staff participated in a Virtual Careers Week, giving insight into the arts industry for students in the Goulburn Valley and beyond. Watch our online interview series to find out what its like to work in the arts industry, different roles, career pathways and what skills are most important.

School Incursions at SAM to recommence in October

We welcome kindergarten, primary and secondary schools to participate in both self-guided and guided tours with an art educator. Free guided tours highlight aspects of the collection and changing exhibition displays that are often exclusive to SAM.

To continue to engage young creative minds, we are offering virtual zoom tours for student groups, hosted by our experienced art educator from within the art museum. Although SAM is currently closed to the public, there has never been a better opportunity to bring students into the gallery spaces virtually. Incursions are being offered to school groups in Term 4, from Primary to Year 12, VCE and VCAL. These tours began in Term 3 streamlined for various year levels and tailored to suit educational needs. Students viewed some of the celebrity artworks on show and gained a valuable museum experience from the safety and comfort of home.

The tours are interactive, with students able to ask questions and direct the guide to areas they would like to view more closely. A bonus has been having a look behind the scenes, which is not normally possible in an Art Gallery. Primary students recently attended the incursion from Bouchier Street Primary and completed curriculum-based activities connected to the artworks from our collection exhibition, A Finer Grain.  These tours are individually modified for teacher and students’ curriculum requirements and conducted via whichever online platform the school uses.

To book your tailored student group virtual tour, please contact SAM Visual Arts Educator Linda Bryan on lbryan@sheppartonartmuseum.com.au

Please check our ‘What’s On’ page for teacher professional development opportunities.

Resources

For each major exhibition SAM creates Education Resources that can be used as an in class resource for teachers and students.

Throughout the duration of the exhibition, students and teachers are encouraged to visit SAM and complete activities in the Education Resource whilst viewing the current exhibition.
