Creativity comes to you in SAM Camp: Picasso on the Road!

We’re heading back out to Kialla Central with a SAM Van-load of art activities to keep kids busy and creative these school holidays. Drop in to discover hands-on crafts from collage to sculpture, all inspired by our upcoming exhibition Facing Modernity: Degas to Picasso.

Best suited to kids aged 5-12 years. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Get glazing and decorate your own weird and wonderful wonky pot in this hands-on workshop! Kids will explore ceramics from the SAM Collection for inspiration before diving into decorating their own pre-made pot, experimenting with colours and shapes to produce their own uniquely designed ceramic.

Each piece will be professionally clear-glazed and kiln-fired after the workshop, ready for collection once finished.

This workshop is suitable for kids aged 5-12. All participants must be accompanied by an adult.

Get behind the wheel in this exciting pottery workshop for teens! Over two hours, participants will learn the basics of working with clay on a pottery wheel, experimenting with forming simple vessels to fire in the kiln.

Ceramics can be very messy – participants are encouraged to bring a towel and wear clothing they don’t mind getting dirty.

This workshop is designed for teens aged 13-17 years. Price includes glazing and firing services.

Join us at SAM for an in-conversation event with 2026 SAM Selectd artist Fran O’Neil and SAM Community Curator Caroline Esbenshade. Over an hour, the pair will explore Fran’s creative processes, her time spent in the New York arts scene, and the inspirations behind her recent exhibition On The Move, now showing in SAM’s Community Gallery.

About the artist:

Fran O’Neill (b. 1971 Wangaratta, VIC) lives and works in Cheshunt, Victoria after spending several years in New York, USA. She holds a BFA from Monash University, completed post-graduate studies at the New York Studio School, and obtained her Master of Fine Arts at Brooklyn College. O’Neill has exhibited extensively and her works can be found in public and private collections in Australia, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

Join us for SAM Club Term 2, our afterschool program for primary aged students in grades 2-6 who love to learn and explore their creativity!

This term, kids will dive into the imaginative worlds of artists including Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, and Henri Matisse. Inspired by their artworks, kids will experiment with ideas and techniques through six weekly guided creative workshops supported by local artist Eleanor Bridge, encouraging curiosity, skill-building, and hands-on making.
