SAM Deep Dives: An Introduction to Modernism with Professor Anthony White (Online) – Lecture series
Step into one of the most influential movements in nineteenth- and twentieth-century art and discover how the Modernists both responded to and helped shape the changing world around them with this online seminar presented by University of Melbourne’s Professor Anthony White.
The first in our Facing Modernity: Degas to Picasso lecture series, this session explores how artists moved away from traditional realism and began experimenting with new ways of seeing the world through expressive colour, innovative techniques, and radical forms. It will also consider the era in which modernism emerged—a time of rapid technological change, growing cities, and major social transformation.
The seminar will conclude with an informal Q&A and discussion. All are welcome to join – pre-reading of the Salon like it’s 1905 toolkit (to be provided) is encouraged but not required.
