About the artist

Kat Parker is an emerging artist based in Shepparton. She recently graduated from RMIT with a Bachelor of Fine Art, specialising in printmaking. After growing up in regional Victoria, it took moving to Melbourne to attend university for Parker to realise the extent to which she took nature for granted. This initiated an interest in the dysfunctional relationship humanity has with nature, with a particular focus on extinction.

Parker’s practice aims to inform about, and memorialise, recent extinctions through printmaking and paper art processes. In the last year, Parker was a recipient of the Firestation Print Studio Graduate Print Access Prize, resulting in the exhibition Centred in the Here and Now. Other recent exhibitions include Northern Beaches Artists’ Book Award 2023 Exhibition at Manly Art Gallery, Interwoven at the South Australian Museum, Escape and Off the Wall at the Firestation Print Studio, SAM Open 2023: Home at Shepparton Art Museum and Open Print Exchange 2021/2022, an international touring exhibition.
