Gertrude Contemporary: Art on the Road with Lisa Waup (Teachers Professional Development Session)
2 December 2022
Contemporary Art on the Road with Lisa Waup
2 December 2022, 9.30am-3.30pm
FREE (bookings essential)
Presented by Gertrude Contemporary, Contemporary Art on the Road is a teacher professional development program founded to bring artists, art educators and teachers together to exchange ideas, share creative experiences and explore contemporary art and culture. The program has been designed to introduce teachers to a range of hands-on, expertly designed strategies and resources for teaching contemporary art in their classroom.
This all-day session will include formal presentations by educators from Gertrude, Monash University Museum of Art (MUMA), the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) and SAM, followed by a workshop led by Lisa Waup (Naarm). Lisa Waup, a mixed-cultural First Peoples multidisciplinary artist and curator born in Naarm, Melbourne, will lead a workshop demonstrating the re-use of materials to create remnant fabric jewellery and ornamentation.
Waup’s practice spans diverse media, including weaving, experimental printmaking, jewellery making, photography, sculpture, fashion and digital art. Through strong connections to symbology and materiality, her work connects her to family, Country, history and story, exploring personal experiences and a broader historical narrative. Lisa has exhibited widely both nationally and internationally and her works have been acquired into numerous institution collections.
