SAM Autumn Camp: School holiday programs

Welcome to SAM Autumn Camp!

With all activities free or low-cost, SAM Autumn Camp is perfect for keeping kids aged 5-15 creating, thinking and playing through the school holidays, with a focus on supporting local – local artists, locally-sourced materials, local conversations.

SAM Kids Art Trail 

Collect a copy from the SAM Front Desk from 8 April 

Our SAM Kids Art Trail leads kids and families on an adventure around the museum through a free, self-guided booklet containing puzzles, activities, scavenger hunts and more. 

Thrown Ceramics

Wednesday 12 April

10.30am - 12.30pm 

Ages 10-15 years, $15 p.p 

In this ceramics workshop, kids will master the fundamentals of the pottery wheel. Kids will learn to wedge clay, craft cups, bowls or other simple objects on the wheel, and prepare clay for the kiln.  

An additional underglazing workshop will be held on Thursday 20 April for kids to decorate and design their clay creations before they go into the kiln for firing. 

I am… me! with Monique Elliott 

Thursday 13 April

1.30-4.00pm 

Ages 10-15 years, $10 p.p 

Inspired by artist Nell’s I am… and guided by ceramicist Monique Elliott, kids will sculpt and decorate their own abstract, fully personalised sculpture that represents themselves using clay. 

 An additional underglazing workshop will be held on Thursday 20 April for kids to decorate and design their clay creations before they go into the kiln for firing. 

Build a Body: Collaging with Sole Galvan 

Wednesday 19 April

10.30am-12.30pm for ages 5-10

2.00pm-3.30pm for ages 10-15 

FREE 

 Join local artist Sole Galvan for a crafty multimedia collage workshop, where kids will piece together their own unique creature using magazines and newspapers.

SAM Toddlers presents See Make Play 

Thursday 20 April

10.30-11.30am 

Ages 1-3, $10 p.p 

Toddlers will enjoy a hands-on session of sensory play and exploration, with an at-home play pack created by creative studio See Make Play to be collected at the end to continue the fun.

Birds-Eye View Collaborative Murals inspired by Ash Keating 

Friday 21 April, drop-in between 11.00am-12.30pm or 2.00-3.30pm 

All ages. FREE

Taking place outdoors, this casual workshop encourages visitors of all ages to contribute to a collective mural inspired by Ash Keating’s abstract landscapes.
