5 March 2022
SAM Talks: Moorina Bonini on This Is Our Story
12.30pm
Level 2, Shepparton Art Museum
Artist talk with Moorina Bonini, as she speaks about her commission This Is Our Story, a series of recorded interviews contextualizing Lin’s practice within the rich network of family, artistic and political spheres in which he worked, that he was inspired by and that he contributed to.
After this event, community members will have the opportunity to record their own memories of Lin.
Moorina Bonini is a proud descendant of the Yorta Yorta Dhulunyagen family clan of Ulupna and the Yorta Yorta and Wurundjeri Briggs/McCrae family. Moorina is an artist whose works are informed by her experiences as an Aboriginal and Italian woman. Her practice is driven by a self-reflexive methodology that enables the reexamination of lived experiences that have influenced the construction of her cultural identity. By unsettling the narrative placed upon Aboriginal people as a result of colonisation of Aboriginal Australia, Bonini’s practice is based within Indigenous Knowledge systems and brings this to the fore. Moorina is a core member of this mob arts collective.
