SAM Talks: Public Art, House of Discards

6 July 2021

FREE

Tuesday 6th of July from 12:30-1pm FREE on ZOOM

Located on the forecourt of SAM, Tony Albert’s House of Discards, 2019, is a major sculptural artwork standing around five metres high. Made using supersized playing cards translated into metal, this deck strips the cards of colour and form and stacks them in a monochromatic arrangement where black never meets white. Albert’s multidisciplinary practice investigates contemporary legacies of colonialism, prompting audiences to contemplate the human condition.

Join artist Tony Albert and SAM Curator- Indigenous, Belinda Briggs this NAIDOC week as they discuss SAM’s newly installed public artwork and its role in truth-telling as we celebrate this year’s theme: Heal Country!
