ICA 2022 Selection Process and Offer of Acceptance
Selection Criteria
The 2022 ICA Selection Panel will assess all applications according to the following criteria:
- The work is by an Aboriginal and Torres Strait artists living in Australia and the Torres Strait
- The work is suitable for the physical exhibition space
- The work incorporates ceramics as a primary medium
- The artistic merit of the artwork is original, clear, and well-executed
Selection Process
Once the application period has closed, SAM will convene the 2022 ICA Selection Panel to review and assess all applications received. This Selection Panel is made up of SAM’s Curator – Indigenous, along with external Indigenous artists and arts industry representatives.
The Selection Panel will shortlist finalists to be displayed in the 2022 ICA exhibition at SAM via the viewing of supplied images and information provided in the application.
Once the 2022 ICA exhibition opens, the Selection Panel will reconvene at SAM to decide on the recipient of the Major Acquisitive Prize and the South-East Australian Aboriginal Artist Prize.
Prizes may not be awarded where the Selection Panel deems there to be insufficient entries to create competition or entries are not to a standard where prizes can be awarded. The Selection Panel has the authority to determine an award be shared between entrants.
Voting forms for the People’s Choice Award will be available at the exhibition and the public will be invited to cast their vote from the opening of the exhibition on Saturday 13 August 2022 until votes close on Thursday 22 September 2022. The artwork with the highest number of public votes will be awarded the People’s Choice Award.
Prizes will be announced at an Awards Ceremony on Saturday 1 October 2022.
Offer of Exhibition and Acceptance
The Selection Panel will select finalists to exhibit in the 2022 ICA exhibition. Shortlisted artists will be notified by telephone and letter. Artists will be advised of the shortlist from Friday 10 June 2022.
Prize winners will be notified by Shepparton Art Museum. An invitation may be issued to artists for travel to Shepparton to receive their award and view the exhibition. Shepparton Art Museum will cover travel and accommodation costs for the major prize winner.
