The Writing's On The Wall
THE WRITING’S ON THE WALL (TWOTW) is a two-year exhibition project presenting text- and language-based artworks and activations, made possible through the National Gallery of Australia’s Sharing the National Collection program.
The project begins with Lawrence Weiner’s With relation to the various manners of use for/of various things, 1974, and Agatha Gothe-Snape’s Three physical doorways, one conceptual wedge and a gentle breeze, 2017, which have been installed in the museum atrium and on Level 4 respectively. Each work was created through a series of instructions set by each artist; Weiner’s conceptual work has been realised with a custom typeface designed by Melbourne-based graphic designer Chiarra Paton-Dowling, whilst Gothe-Snape’s work has been hand-painted by Beechworth-based traditional signwriter Clem Angus.
These works are on long-term loan from the National Gallery of Australia with support from the Australian Government as part of the Sharing the National Collection.
