SAM Summer Camp 2024

School holidays at SAM are back for the summer! For artists aged 4 - 17, our range of free and low-cost hands-on programs and tours are perfect for keeping kids and teens creating, thinking, and playing while school's out. These holidays, our packed program includes upcycled crafts, Picasso-inspired pottery, zine-making and more!

Friends of SAM members receive 10% off programs.

Please note that children under 12 years must be accompanied at all times by an adult.

Our selection of free, self-guided activities for kids are on hand for when you’re just dropping in for a casual visit with the kids.

Our brand-new SAM Art Passport is a handy guide that leads kids on a journey through the museum and encourages them to explore the museum – collect a free pack at the SAM front desk at your next visit to join the fun!

Making Mushrooms

Inspired by Beci Orpin’s fantastic fungi in MUSH/ROOM, kids will create their own marvellous mushrooms using upcycled household materials.

Kids Guided Tour of The ARNDT Collection: From One World to Another

Kids are invited to tag along with SAM Public Programs Coordinator Olivia Trenorden for an assisted Travel Guide tour of our exhibition The ARNDT Collection: From One World to Another. On the tour, kids will discover works by Australian and international artists, including Pablo Picasso, Gilbert & George, and more.

Pottery like Picasso

Inspired by the peculiar pottery of Picasso, kids and teens will learn to create their own ceramics in this intensive hand-on workshop. Over two hours, kids will grow their pottery skills to create their own pots, vases, or dishes.

An optional underglazing session will run in the following week for kids to return to decorate their ceramic creations with their own designs.

Friday Family Yoga Flow with Anita Brisbane

Find your family flow with Anita Brisbane in this hour of mindful movement in our Community Gallery, inspired by the ambient landscapes of Ellen Lee. Suitable for all levels of skill, this session is a great opportunity to relax, move and connect as a family.

Painting African Masks with Nickel Mundabi

Join artist Nickel Mundabi for a painting workshop inspired by traditional African masks.

The workshop will also feature a brief tour of exhibition The ARNDT Collection: From One World to Another, offered in both English and Swahili.

SAM Club: School Holiday Edition - Grades 1-3

Join us for a special school holiday edition of SAM Club! In this full day art-making program for primary school students in grades 1-3, kids will enjoy an introduction to ceramics, art theory, and art history through a series of hands-on clay workshops in a relaxed, fun environment.

Please note: This program includes two 30 min breaks at 11.30am-12pm and 1.30pm-2pm. Attendance by guardians during the workshop is strongly encouraged.

Making Zines with Nicky Tsekouras

Join artist Nicky Tsekouras for a hands-on afternoon of zine-making and discover the endless possibilities of paper collage!

Zines are the ultimate means of DIY self-expression. In this workshop, teens will start with some creative warm-ups to explore ideas, inspiration, and concepts for their collages, then will bring their ideas to life through a step-by-step collaging exercise.
